Playground Basketball reads most skill moves from a small set of buttons plus a direction. Learn the face buttons for your device first, then add D-pad or Z/X/C sequences. Click the left stick (L3) to toggle Normal, POV, and POV Low. POV keeps dribble directions lined up with the hoop. If a spin turns into two hesitations, open settings and lower the Dribble Window or Tap Window so multi-tap inputs have more frames to register.
Shared controller layout
Xbox and PlayStation use the same positions. Follow the on-screen prompt if a label on your build disagrees with this table. One DualSense summary names Triangle as the jump contest and Cross as pass, which matches this map. A separate defense writeup also assigns the hands-up contest to L2/LT, the same trigger used for post stance and box-outs.

A defense writeup lists keyboard contest as G or F and steal as left click. The keyboard finishing guide uses F for the self-lob. Those two assignments cannot both own F. Use the in-game controller icon and the button that actually contests a shot in your current build.
Ball-hand rules on keyboard:
- Crossover: C if the ball is in the left hand, Z if it is in the right hand.
- Hesitation: the same-hand key (Z left hand, C right hand).
- Spin: double-tap C with the ball in the left hand, or double-tap Z with the ball in the right hand.
- Escape: hold Shift and tap the crossover key.
Mobile
Offense buttons sit on the right: Shoot, Dunk, Post, and Switch hands. Defense swaps in Guard, Steal, Jump, Screen, and Sprint. Tap Shoot and release on the green window. Builds without a dunk rating will not get a useful Dunk button; finish with floaters and layups until driving dunk is raised. Holding Guard and Sprint together is awkward on a phone, so keep the camera pulled back and do not hold Guard for the whole possession.
Finishes that share the shoot button
- Hop step: walk forward and tap shoot once, then finish.
- Floater: run without sprint and hold shoot.
- Layup: hold sprint and hold shoot until the meter is green.
- Jelly: during that layup, tap shoot again to change the hand.
- Side hop: hold sprint, move left, right, or back, and tap shoot.
- Euro: drive straight at the rim with no sideways stick tilt, tap shoot, then dunk or layup. A sideways tilt turns it into a hop step.
- Post lean: inside the arc, hold the post trigger and double-tap shoot.
Self-lobs are dunk-only. Keyboard uses F. Controller uses a double-tap of the pass or lob input while driving. A driving dunk of at least 60 is the threshold cited for triggering aerial dunks instead of a stalled gather.
